The Birthplace of Shag - North Myrtle Beach, SC!

Located on the northern end of the Grand Strand, just north of Myrtle Beach, lies North Myrtle Beach the birth place of Shag. Back in 1968, the four areas of Cherry Grove beach, Crescent Beach Ocean Drive Beach, & Windy Hill Beach gathered together to form the City of North Myrtle Beach.

Shag is the official dance of the State of South Carolina. It is a cross between swing dancing and the jitterbug. Each April and September "shaggers" flock to North Myrtle Beach from across the country. The event, sponsored by the SOS (Society of Stranders) brings thousands of followers to Main Street for the party.

North Myrtle Beach also home to the Atlantic Beach Bike Festival, held each Memorial Day weekend, in which thousands of bikers descend of the city for the weekend motorcycle festival.

While it is similar in many ways to Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach offers some very unique locations.

First, North Myrtle Beach offers many larger scaled accommodations and resorts, a trend Myrtle Beach is following. These luxury resorts offer everything. There are plenty of beach homes and condos to rent whether it's 3rd row off the beach, 2nd row, 1st row, or directly on the ocean. North Myrtle Beach doesn't also has excellent hotels & motels. Just the right type accommodation is waiting for you.

The attractions in North Myrtle Beach offer there own spin on entertainment. Aside from live shows at Tribute! The Concert, you can take part in other live shows, go-cart tracks, mini-golf, fishing, riverboat tours, and more.

Now, for the golfer, a superb number of courses are available throughout North Myrtle Beach and into Little River. Large manicured greens and fairways on standard and pro courses await each type of golfer. Even Hootie and the Blowfish hold their celebrity golf tournament here.

Nightlife is limited in North Myrtle Beach, but a late night can be found at the House of Blues at Barefoot Landing. Barefoot Landing is an outdoor complex, home to many shops, attractions, and restaurants. Many nightclubs can be found by taking a short trip south into Myrtle Beach.

Speaking of restaurants, You'll find many highly popular dining venues in North Myrtle Beach. Like Thoroughbred's and Greg Norman's.

North Myrtle Beach is an excellent choice to make your stay. The surrounding area offers fun attractions and sights to see. Many visitors return year after year to this north end of the Strand and many stay permanently.
