Compare Pawleys Island/Litchfield

Tranquil Pawleys Island and Litchfield Beach, SC!

This gem on the Grand Strand is located roughly 25 miles south of Myrtle Beach and 70 miles north of Charleston. Combined, Litchfield Beach and Pawleys Island are two examples of quaint, small town life.

Pawleys Island, known as "Arrogantly Shabby" is a barrier island about 3 1/2 miles long and just one or two houses wide. The island is separated from the mainland by a vast and exquisite salt marsh. Access to the island is made through two short causeways on the north and south ends of the island.

Beach homes, most available for rental, line the island from end to end. It is a perfect getaway where you can enjoy the crashing waves on one side of a beach house and the calm waters of the marsh, suitable for swimming, fishing, and jet skiing on the other side.

The southern tip of the island, where the ocean meets the salt marsh, is our favorite location. It is a perfect public access area to enjoy either the sunrise or sunset, with low tide being an exceptionally enjoyable time to walk through the shallow water looking for shells.

The mainland of Pawleys Island which includes Litchfield and Litchfield Beach offer a wonderful setting for relaxation and a laid back atmosphere.

There is only one "resort" located in Litchfield. Several hotels are scattered throughout the area so you are sure to find the right spot for you. There area many companies that offer beach house and condo rentals on the ocean, 2nd row, marsh, and on golf courses.

Golf Courses are a main part of the area. There are 9 courses in the area. Some of the most pristine greens and fairways located on the Grand Strand are located in Pawleys Island. Dining is not a problem in Litchfield and Pawleys Island. Elegant restaurants are found throughout the area. Shopping is a key feature where you will find boutiques and antique shops in among Live Oak Tree covered in Spanish Moss.

Attractions may be limited, but there are must-see items to sample. First you'll want to visit the Brookgreen Gardens just north of the border with Murrells Inlet. And for something to make the hair on your neck stand on edge, you may want to take a tour to Alice's Grave or hear the legend of the Gray Man.

If slow-paced and laid-back lifestyles are what you are after, Pawleys Island/Litchfield is an experience we are sure that you want to try and for many it becomes a place to relocate to and call home.
